funny i had an EKG done a few weeks ago.. :3 then an Echocardiogram a few days ago…
In the U.S. either EKG or ECG is acceptable when referring to an electrocardiogram. We (yes, we, I am a doctor) use EKG especially when speaking because ECG can sound similar to EEG (electroencephalogram) which is a very different test and may cause confusion. The K in EKG seems a bit arbitrary, I agree, but that’s why it’s used. Either way, if I see ECG or EKG I know what it means.

Hey, on another note: people have mentioned the shirts shrink a bit. With the mens shirts, I’ve discovered if after you wash and dry them, you can stretch them back out. I insert both arms and stretch outwards. Be careful to stretch them equally so they don’t lose their shape, and also make sure to do it after each wash. If you don’t, the fabric may be too compressed. (This may not work with the women’s shirt since they’re fitted.)

Just as a note an EKG and a echocardiogram are the same thing. EKG is just the abbriviation for it. The reason however it is a K instead of a C is because of the German. Their cardio is spelled with a K.
incorrect. ekg or ecg, as you please is a record of the electrical activity of the heart, usually recorded on a paper tape, rather like a seismograph. however an echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart, it also shows the electrical activity, but the main purpose is to analyze blood flow, structure and to look for any problems with such. i had to have both very often when i was on chemotherapy, due to the fact that the drug i was on was very cardiotoxic, so i had each before and after each infusion, to monitor my heart, to make sure no damage was done. i still have to have them regularly, due to the fact that the damage can occur at any time after treatment, not just during.
i’m not certain why i even made this post, but i suppose having medical knowledge and a degree in it,( no, not MD, PA- physician’s assistant, which means i basically have all the powers of a dr. in a clinical setting, but i don’t do surgery, trauma, etc. ) leaves me with some sort of compulsion to correct misinformation. rather like english teachers can’t help correcting grammar.
beyond that, got it yesterday, wore it today! woooot!! dr. tiny cat, i bow down to you and your knowledge. all hail dr. tiny cat!

love it…bought it. as for the EKG or ECG argument, here’s the scoop, it’s inventor Einthoven was German, thus, using the German spelling of cardio, which is spelled with a K. either is acceptable, but EKG was original. it’s frequently still used today to prevent confusion between it and EEG, electroencephalograph…since c and e sound similar when spoken.
